Abstract

1,248,234. Razors. WARNER-LAMBERT CO. 19 Aug., 1968 [21 Aug., 1967], No. 39596/68. Heading B4B. A double edge, sectional cap-type safety razor comprises a moulded one-piece handle 11 with a blade seat 23 at one end, the blade seat having a blade guard 34, 35 along each edge, an elongated slot 36 formed in the blade seat intermediate the blade guards, a cross strap 13 received in the slot 36, cross braces 60, 61 at opposite ends of the strap 13, and sectional caps 15, 16 pivotally supported on the cross braces 60, 61 and is characterized in that a centre bar 70 having a threaded stem 73, is supported on the cross strap 13 by means of fastening lugs, with the stem extending through the cross strap 30 and associating with an operating knob 12 held against vertical movement, whereby rotation of the knob 12 moves the stem 73 and centre bar 70 up and down to open and close the caps 15, 16 for removing and replacing a blade in the razor. In one embodiment lugs 66-69 on the strap 13 are bent into engagement with lugs, 71 72 on the bar 70, and the stem 73 is inserted in a bore in the handle 11, the threaded portion of the stem engaging with a threaded bore 26 in the knob 12 which is located in a recess in the handle 11. A knob 76 which has been pushed past flexible fingers at the end of the bore 26 during assembly of the razor, engages with these fingers to limit the opening movement of the caps 15, 16. In a second embodiment, the bar 70 is received in a channel-shaped crossstrap and the lugs are formed by side wall portions of the strap being deformed into holes in the bar 70. The handle 11, knob 12, and centre bar 70 and stem 73 may be of plastics and the other parts of metal.
