Abstract

1,248,199. Reciprocating pumps and motors. J. U. THOMA and R. GALDABINI. Feb.11, 1970 [March 5, 1969], No.6637/70. Heading F1A. An axial piston tilting head type pump or motor has a pair of tilting head trunnions 4 mounted in trunnion bearings 12 disposed between the opposing faces 11 of two casing sections 1a, 1b the casing being divided on a plane containing the tilting axis 3. The casing sections are held together by bolts, and a pair of cover-plates 14 close the circular apertures formed by the surfaces 11, an axial thrust bearing ring 13 being located between each cover-plate 14 and the associated trunnion 4. The inlet and outlet passages 5 to the cylinder block 2 are located in the trunnions 4 and are led out through the coverplates 14 via connecting sleeves 16. The casing section 1b is filled with lubricant and leakage is prevented by an annular seal between the two casing sections, the seal having two diametrically opposed circular portions 23 to effect a seal between the surfaces 11 and the cover-plate 14. In a modification, Fig. 4, the connecting sleeves 30 each have a radial flange forming a plane surface 31 co-operating with a plane surface on the cover-plate 14, to allow for small radial movements to compensate for tolerance errors. A groove 32 in the surface 31 contains an annular seal.
