Abstract

1,247,666. Working by radiant energy beams. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. 3 Oct., 1968 [4 Oct., 1967], No. 45274/67. Heading B3V. A chamber adapted to house, or be secured to, a workpiece 14 comprises an optical reflector 8 arranged to reflect back to a target area of the workpiece energy scattered after incidence on the target area, and a window 10 in the reflector 8 through which a beam of energy from an external source can be directed to the target area. A hemispherical or hemicylindrical reflector 8 is enclosed in a housing 6 of the chamber, through which a gas may be passed via conduits 18. The beam of coherent radiation, e.g. laser, photon beam is brought to a focus on the workpiece 14 by the window 10 in the form of a lens. A seal 16 enables the workpiece 14 to be traversed beneath the chamber.
