Abstract

[Also in Divisions B3 and F2] In a pipe junction of a central heating system, wherein a circulatory main flow pipe 1 is provided with a throat 4 between convergent and diffuser portions 2 and 6 and wherein a radiator return flow branch pipe 3 is connected to the wall of the diffuser portion, the main pipe circumference or perimeter remains constant along the length of the diffuser portion at least and equal to the initial pipe circumference. The junction is made by plasticallydeforming the circular main pipe about an internal die so that the pipe is flattened to form convergent throat and diffuser portions having cross-sections of generally oval or flattened oval form, Fig. 3 (not shown), and welding the branch pipe to an aperture in the diffuser wall. The junction may also be formed by injection moulding of plastics material. The changes in cross-sectional area alternatively may be obtained by forming creases in the pipe wall.
