[Also in Division C2] Pharmaceutical compositions having antibacterial activity comprise 2,4-diamino-6- methyl - 5 - (3',5' - dimethoxy - 4' - hydroxy - benzyl) - pyrimidine or 2,4,6 - triamino - 5 - (3', 5' - di - tert. - butyl - 4' - hydroxy - benzyl)- pyrimidine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof in association with either a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or a sulphonamide, e.g. sulphaguanidine. The compositions may be administered in the form of tablets, capsules, catchets, ampoules, suppositories, powders, granules, solutions or suspensions in an aqueous, non-aqueous or emulsified liquid, or as an ointment. Optional additional ingredients include diluents, solutes, buffers, flavouring, binding, dispersing, surfaceactive, thickening, lubricating and coating materials, preservatives, antioxidants, bacteriostats, suppository and ointment bases and any other acceptable excipients.
