Abstract

1,246,920. Transformers. SIEMENS A.G. 20 Oct., 1969 [18 Oct., 1968], No. 51433/69. Heading H1T. A tap changing arrangement has rectifier bridges 4, 5 connected, at the instant of tap position changeover, to two taps by means of selector switch arms 2, 3. Controlled rectifiers 60, 70 in the respective D.C. bridge arms have their negative poles connected by a capacitor 110. At changeover of tap positions, the unconnected selector arm is engaged with the next tap, the capacitor 110 then charging up to the tap differential voltage. A firing pulse then turns on the other controlled rectifier, causing the capacitor to discharge, thus ensuring rapid turn-off of the un-pulsed rectifier. Inductors 80, 90 enable the conductive rectifier to remain so during current zero conditions without the need of continuous firing pulses. Control of the alternating firing pulses would enable a gradual transition from one tap position to the other.
