Abstract

1,246,781. Silver plating wire. FURUKAWA ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 23, 1970 [Feb. 22, 1969], No. 8607/70. Heading C7B. Silver covered wires of Cu, Cu alloy (e.g. phosphor-bronze containing 8% Sn) or Fe-Ni alloy (e.g. 48% Fe-52% Ni) are continuously produced, for lead wires of semi-conductor rectifier elements, by brass-plating the wires, e.g. to a thickness 0À1 to 15 micron in a cyanide bath in which the weight ratio of Cu to Zn is 50/50 to 95/5, Ag strike plating in a cyanide bath containing 0À1 to 10 g/l Ag for 5 to 60 seconds, Ag plating in a cyanide bath containing 15 to 60 g/l Ag e.g. for 8 to 25 minutes, then drawing the plated wires to a predetermined diameter and annealing e.g. by induction heating to 200-700‹C., with if desired further drawing. Prior to brass-plating the wires may be buff-polished, degreased in an alkaline bath e.g. anodically, and/or dipped in a solution of alkali metal cyanide e.g. KCN, H 2 SO 4 or HCl.
