Abstract
1,245,826. Electric couplings. C.C.L. SYSTEMS Ltd. 23 Dec., 1969 [23 Dec., 1968], No. 61086/68. Heading H2E. In an electrical connector for a steel cored aluminium cable comprising a spigot 1, which forms part of an eye bolt 2, having an axial recess 12 and being externally screw-threaded at 3, a barrel element 4 with a tapered bore 6 and an internal screw thread 5 to mate with the spigot 1, and a split wedge 7, the steel core 8 is held in the connector by the spigot 1 forcing the wedge 7 into the barrel element 4 and electrical connection between the aluminium outer layer 10 of the cable and the eye bolt 2 is effected by an aluminium sleeve 9 which is compressed on to the outer layer 10 and on to the spigot 1 which is provided with serrations 11 for firmer contact. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), two integral spigots 1 form a coupling member (13) which with respective barrel elements and wedges provides a connector for two steel cord aluminium cables. In this case, the aluminium sleeve extends beyond the connector assembly on to the ends of the aluminium outer layers of the two cables to effect electrical contact.
