Abstract

1,245,119. Pipes; jointing pipes to walls. RAYCHEM CORP. 9 Oct., 1968, No. 47862/68. Headings F2G and F2P. A supply line 4 passing through a wall 5 is sealed to the wall by a conduit comprising a centre portion 7 and end parts 11 which latter can be heat shrunk on to the supply line, the centre portion being arranged so that it does not shrink when the end parts are heat shrunk and secured to the wall by mortar. The conduit comprises a sleeve of heat shrinkable material which may be a cross-linked polymeric material such as a polyolefin and may include a flame retardant filler. The central portion of the sleeve may be partially shrunk on to a cylindrical reinforcing member or on to a helical coil 2 as shown, or onto a series of spaced washers, to provide the non shrinkable central portion; alternatively the whole tube may be of heat-shrinkable material of sufficient thickness that the centre portion does not shrink when the ends are heat shrunk. The reinforcing means may be metallic, e.g. aluminium, or of plastics material. In another embodiment the conduit is formed by a non heat shrinkable central portion on to the ends of which boots of heat shrinkable material are shrunk. The shrinkable end portions may be of V formation to accommodate more than one supply line (Fig. 8, not shown).
