Abstract

1,244,826. Spindle brake and dutch. ZINSER-TEXTILMASCHINEN G.m.b.H. 29 Jan., 1970 [1 Feb., 1969], No. 4291/70. Heading DID. [Also in Division F2] An electromagnetic brake for a spindle comprises an electromagnet 23 mounted on a support 17 which is movable towards an armature 12 which rotates with the spindle. When the electromagnet is energized it moves towards the armature until it engages a brake surface thereon. Means are providd for returning the brake member to its initial position on deexcitation of the electromagnet. As shown, the electromagnet 23 is prevented from rotation by screws 10 engaging in slots in a fixed part 4 of the spindle rail. The electromagnet carries a friction lining 26 which bears against the lower face of a flange of the driving wharf 13 during braking. In Figures 3 and 4 (not shown) the electromagnet declutches the wharf from the spindle prior to braking the spindle, by first moving upwards to abut the lower end of a spindle support (53) and then pull clutch part (61) down towards itself. This clutch part (61) thereby disengages from the wharf and, being attached to the spindle, brakes the spindle as it contacts the electromagnet. In Figures 5 and 6 (not shown) the electromagnet declutches the wharf (57) from the spindle by engaging bolt heads (81) during its upward movement towards braking flange (76), thereby disengaging clutch part (77) from the wharf. In Figure 7 (not shown), the electromagnet moves upwards to bear against brake flange (76<SP>1</SP>) and pulls clutch member (94) downwards to disengage the spindle. The brake surface may be conical instead of flat as shown. It is stated that the brake can also act as a radial brake.
