Abstract

1,244,465. Pneumatic tyres. CONTINENTAL GUMMI-WERKE A.G 13 Feb., 1970 [11 April, 1969], No. 7117/70. Heading B7C. A blank for a pneumatic tyre comprises carcase plies 2, 3 of parallel cords embedded in rubber and extending at approximately right angles to the mid-circumferential plane between two inextensible bead rings 1, and two or more layers of rubberized parallel cord fabric forming a circumferential belt 8 which has an axial width B two-thirds the length L of the carcase ply cords between the bead rings and the directions of the cords of adjacent layers inclined at equal and opposite angles to said plane in the range between 30 and 50 degrees. The belt 8 comprises two sheets 6, 7 with the sheet 7 folded into S-shape. When the blank is shaped into a finished tyre form the belt is expanded circumferentially and axially contracted from B to b with the result that the angle of the belt cords with the said plane is reduced to between 10 and 25 degrees while those parts of the carcase plies underlying the belt become compressed and those parts within the tyre-sidewalls become tensioned. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,164,840.
