Abstract
1418067 Pneumatic tyres CONTINENTAL GUMMI-WERKE AG 21 March 1973 [25 March 1972] 13498/73 Heading B7C A pneumatic tyre for single-track vehicles comprises a tread 6 whose road-contacting surface 5<SP>1</SP> is curved in transverse profile such that the tyre has shoulder portions which do not contact the road during straight travel of the tyre, a carcass 3, a cord ply 7 superposed on the carcass 3 extending from one shoulder portion to the other, and a pair of circumferential belts 8, 9 each disposed in a respective shoulder portion so as to lie wholly between the ply 7 and the tread 6, the radially outer surface of each belt 8, 9, at the mid-circumferential plane of the belt, being located at a radial distance from the radially innermost extremity of the tyre equal to 0À75-0À80 of the maximum section height h of the tyre. The distance between the belts 8, 9 may be 1-3 times their width b, and each belt may be disposed at a distance A, substantially equal to 3b, from the nearer tyre bead. The diameter of each belt at its axially inner edge may be less than the maximum diameter of the carcass 4. The belts 8, 9 may be disposed such that a tangent 13 to the mid-circumferential plane of either belt forms an angle α of 50-70 degrees with the tyre mid-circumferential plane 14. The cords of the ply 7 may be inclined at 10-25 degrees to the circumferential, and the belts 8, 9 may contain cords inclined in the same sense to the circumferential at an angle of 8-20 degrees. The carcass 3 may be a cross-ply carcass whose cords are inclined to the circumferential at an angle approximately twice that made by the cords of the ply 7.
