Abstract

1,244,044. Transistor coupling circuits. RCA CORPORATION. 18 Dec., 1968 [19 Dec., 1967], No. 60080/68. Heading H3T. A grounded emitter transistor having a collector resistor 34 has connected across its emitter-base junction a diode or a transistor 10 with its collector and base linked, and receives an input signal through a resistor 26 whereby the output signal at 40 is related to the input by the ratio R34 to R26, and by the ratio of the junction areas of diodes 14-18, 16-20. For equal emitter-base junction areas in the two transistors the collector currents are equal and the input and output signals are related by the ratio of the resistors 26, 34. The output D.C. level is adjusted at 32. To increase current gain, the emitter-base junction area of the transistor 30 is increased, or alternatively, a plurality of transistors is connected in parallel with transistor 30. Applications include a phase splitter (Fig. 2, not shown) in which the signal from the collector of a PNP transistor (52) passes through the input resistor (26), and the output from the collector of transistor (30) is connected to an emitter follower (50). The output of the emitter follower and the collector of PNP transistor provide the antiphase outputs. In a switching circuit (Fig. 3, not shown) the input to the diode-connected transistor (230) is received from a long-tailed pair via a Zener diode (220), the output transistor (225) thus being prevented from saturating. In a high-gain wide-band amplifier (Fig. 4, not shown) the collector resistor (26) input of the diode-connected transistor (10) is received from an emitter follower, and the collector load of transistor (12) is a tuned circuit.
