Abstract
1,243,973. Glass fibre composition. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 31 July, 1968 [4 Aug., 1967], No. 8143/71. Divided out of 1,243,972: Heading C1M. An alkali-resistant glass fibre is made from glass containing by weight: SiO 2 , 65-80%; ZrO 2 , 10-20%; and a network modifier N, 10-20%. N is an oxide of an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, or Zn. The alkali-resistance is that specified in Specification 1,200,732. Also present may be minor proportions of other oxides, e.g. A1 2 .0 3 or La 2 O 3 . N and these oxides may act as fluxing agents; or #10% of another fluxing agent may be present. N may be Na 2 O + Li 2 O. The glass may be fiberized at 1450-1500‹ C. The fibres may be used for reinforcing Portland cement concrete. The fibres may also be used to reinforce thermosetting resins. .
