[Also in Division C2] Polyether isocyanates of the formula wherein m is 2 or 3, R<SP>1</SP> is or and R is a group of the formula wherein R<SP>11</SP> is a di- or tri-functional C 2-6 alkylene group, a C 4-8 oxyalkylene group or an alkyl diarylene group having up to 25 carbon atoms, R<SP>111</SP> is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl and n is 1 to 20, are obtained by reacting, in solution, phosgene with an amine of formula The reaction is preferably effected in an inert solvent by contacting the amine with phosgene at 0-60‹ C. and completing the reaction at 100-175‹ C. Suitable starting materials include polypropylene glycol (500 to 2000) and condensates of propylene oxide with polyols which have been cyanoethylated and subsequently hydrogenated.
