Abstract

1,238,696. Separating acid gases. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 20 Nov., 1969 [13 Dec., 1968], No. 59451/68. Heading B1L. Acid gases, e.g. CO 2 are separated from a gaseous mixture by absorbing them at 20- 60‹C under superatmospheric pressure in a liquid absorbent comprising a solvent and at least one amine having the formula HN(R 1 )(R 2 ), Where R 1 is an alkanol or a substituted alkanol and R 2 is a cyclo alkyl or substituted cycloalkyl group. The solvent may be organic, aqueous or organic containing some water. Many examples of amines and solvents are listed, but a mixture of cyclohexylaminoethanol and diethylene glycol monobutyl ether is favoured. The acid gases are recovered from the rich absorbent at 20- 60‹C by flashing at reduced pressure or by stripping with inert gas.
