Abstract

1,243,674. Plastics containers. MONSANTO EUROPE S.A. 29 Oct., 1969 [22 Nov., 1968], No. 55539/68. Heading B8D. The inside surface of a moulded thermoplastics container has an annular portion X that is roughened with respect to the rest of the container surface such that, when the container is filled with yoghurt or other metastable emulsified dairy-based product, the tendency for contents to move relative to the container is lessened. The container may be blow-moulded, thermo - formed, or injection - moulded. The roughness may be imparted by treating with an abrasive. Preferably, however, the roughness is imparted on moulding by roughening the requisite portion of the mould part forming the internal surface by shot-blasting, acid-etching or electric discharge erosion. The band of roughness may be augmented by internal constrictions as shown or by embossments. The container, which may be cylindrical or frustoconical with the larger end at the top or bottom, is preferably made of polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene or impact polystyrene. An aluminium foil cover may be provided.
