Insulators.-In connecting materials having different coefficients of expansion, such as porcelain insulators and their metal supports, crimped metal, preferably in the form of a thimble or capsule, is inserted between the materials. Fig. 1 shows a crimped metal thimble d inserted between a porcelain insulator e and its steel support a. The thimble shown detached in Fig. 2 has vertical crimpings which extend over the top part; the crimpings may, however, be diagonal or chequered. Instead of the corrugations b, the spindle may be formed with a screw-thread. The thimbles may be made of lead or tin, and two or more may be superimposed.
