Abstract

1,242,631. Tyre gaiters. P. B. LLOYD. 13 Jan., 1970 [14 Jan., 1969; 13 Feb., 1969], Nos. 2042/69 and 7746/69. Heading B7C. A gaiter comprises a U-shaped rigid metal strip with a flat base having steel studs 13 or bars 35 thereon for gripping snow, ice, &c., and having a lining 20 on the inner tyre-engaging side of the strip to protect the tyre from wear by the strip, each limb of the U having a respective flexible element one being larger than the other for passing through the wheel, there being means for releasably securing the elements together. The studs 13 may have hardened tips and the bars may be inclined to the plane of the U in the same or opposite directions to one another; studs and bars may be riveted or welded to the strip. A single strap acts as a combined lining 20 and flexible elements and comprises a multi-ply rubberized textile material. In Fig. 4 an additional protective pad 26, wider than the strip, is provided.
