Abstract

1,242,496. Cis - 1,4 - polyisoprene. SNAM PROGETTI S.p.A. 15 Oct., 1969 [16 Oct., 1968], No. 50778/69. Heading C3P. Cis-1,4-polyisoprene is prepared by polymerizing isoprene in the presence of a catalyst comprising a titanium tetraalcoholate and a compound of the formula AlRX 2 wherein R is a C 1-10 hydrocarbon and X is halogen, the atomic ratio of Al : Ti in the catalyst being at least 4 : 1. In the examples titanium tetrabutoxide and ethylaluminium dichloride are reacted together in n-heptane and isoprene is added. The polymerization is stopped by addition of methanol acidified with HCl and containing 1% by weight of an antioxidant.
