Abstract

1,242,480. Treating textiles. F.M.C. CORP. 16 Sept., 1969 [6 Dec., l968], No. 45496/69. Heading DIP. [Also in Division C3] A regenerated cellulose product is chemically modified by treating the cellulose product in contact with an aqueous solution of 5 to 30% by volume formaldehyde or its equivalent such as symtrioxane or paraformaldehyde and from 15 to 25% by volume of HCl at a temperature ranging from immediately above the freezing point of the solution to 15‹C., for ¢ to 60 minutes, and removing substantially all the hydrochloric acid from the treated product. The product so treated has improved wet resilience and crease resistance and may be in the form of fibres, films, fabrics or sponges. The wet, cross-linked acid free treated product may be fibrous and may be treated with a latent acid liberating catalyst such as an acid salt for accelerating curing of the treated product at a temperature above 110‹C after treatment with a cellulose finish.
