Abstract
1,242,471. Blowing bitumen. OSTERREICHISCHE MINERALOLVERWALTUNG A.G. 17 July, 1969 [25 July, 1968], No. 36039/69. Heading C5E. In a bitumen-blasting process water is introduced into an air stream and is evaporated by heat from the bitumen, through which the resulting air and steam mixture is passed. The water is supplied to the top of each of a plurality of vertical tubes depending from an air manifold into the reactor, for indirect heating by the bitumen in the reactor. The air-steam mixture is delivered by each tube to the base of the reactor and passes upwards by a deflector and a turbine for dispersing bubbles of the mixture into the bitumen.
