Abstract

1,241,997. Cine projectors. EASTMAN KODAK CO. June 5, 1968 [June 5, 1967], No. 26873/68. Heading G2E. A fully automatic multiple film cine projector carries supply reel cartridges 31 in an indexable bottomless rack 24 slidable between rails 19, 21 to bring a selected cartridge into the projection position engaging the head of a fixed, end-supported spindle 22 on which the cartridges are coaxially and slidably located, the film end then being extracted from the cartridge and fed to the projector mechanism below by means comprising a stripper (67) and a film-coil engaging friction drive (64), the projector functions being controlled in predetermined co-ordination by a cam-shaft rotated by a driven shaft through a solenoidoperated one-revolution clutch (86), Fig. 7 (not shown). The cartridge construction and the film extraction means form the subject-matter of, Specification 1,234,812. Spindle driving means 22 comprises a tube (95) Fig. 7 (not shown) fixed to support (23) and containing a rotatable spindle shaft carrying the spindle head (51) with a spring-loaded latch engaging the selected reel. For re-winding, the spindle shaft is driven through a slipping clutch by belt-driven pulley (103), the drive being disengaged to permit free rotation of the reel. The clutch is controlled by a plate (121), actuated by the control cam-shaft (72), and is briefly engaged before drive (64) operates to tighten the film coil turns. The cartridge rack has spaced legs 52, Fig. 1, which are engaged by indexing mechanism (53), Fig. 7 (not shown), operated by cam-shaft (72). The racks are interchangeable and manual override is provided. Control assembly (56) includes the drive-and cam-shafts (73, 72), the indexing means, and the film extraction means, and is powered by motor (82). A rotary switch comprising contact plate (91) and rotary contact (92) on cam-shaft (72) controls the electrical circuits which operate the cam-shaft clutch solenoid, the spindle shaft clutch actuator, the film-threading mechanism, an empty-reject switch operative when no cartridge is encountered by the threading mechanism, a gate switch sensing the arrival of the film end at the projector gate. Coding notches in the cartridges, for example, to indicate whether a sound film is within, are sensed by a switch which switches on the sound reproduction means. Framing speed is selected by manually operable knob 15. A spring-loaded snubber detects increasing film tension after projection and switches on the re-wind drive to the spindle shaft.
