Abstract

1,241,781. -Unwinding machines. K. I. J. ROSEN. 2 Jan., 1970 [7 Jan., l969], No. 300/ 70. Heading D1J. A yarn storing and delivery device includes a storage drum 8 on which a supply of turns of yarn is automatically maintained and a retarding ring 10 arranged so that yarn 3a stored on the drum can be axially withdrawn therefrom through the retarding ring 10, the retarding ring comprising an annular base 11 spaced radially from the drum 8 adjacent the position of yarn withdrawal and a plurality of resilient fingers or spokes 12 that extend from the base 11 and are inclined radially inwards and circumferentially in the direction of relative rotation of the yarn during its withdrawal from the drum, and so that the free end of one finger 12 overlaps the root of the next, the free ends of the fingers 12 engaging a shoulder 13 which forms part of or is fixed to the drum 8. The drum 8 is rotated by a motor (not shown). The quantity of the yarn supply 3a is maintained within predetermined limits, the yarn supply being measured, for example by photoelectric means, and the drive to the drum 8 is disconnected when the upper limit of the yarn supply is reached, or switched on when the lower limit is reached. The base 11 and the fingers 12 may be made as a single moulding of plastics material.
