Abstract

1,241,238. Recording-apparatus. HONEYWELL G.m.b.H. Sept. 8, 1969 [Sept.13, 1968], No. 44317/69. Heading G1J. [Also in Division F2] A control for starting and selecting the duration of drive from an electric motor to a web drive mechanism in a recording-apparatus comprises a control shaft 19 which is slid axially to start the drive and rotated to select the duration of drive. A hub 2 fast with the shaft 19, a gear box 1 and pinion 11 slide axially with the shaft 19 against the bias of a spring 6. The pinion 11 slides into mesh with two pinions in the transmission between the electric motor and web driving mechanism and thus completes the transmission therebetween. Rotation of the shaft 19 which is permitted by a slip coupling between the shaft and pinion 11 rotates the hub 2 to move a recess 15 therein out of alignment with a ball 5 carried by a fixed hub 3. On release of the shaft 19 a radial face 14 abuts the ball 5 and holds the shaft 19, hub 2, gear 1 and pinion 11 in the axially displaced positions. The drive from the motor to the web drive mechanism rotates the pinion 11 which drives the shaft 19 in the opposite rotary direction through 100:1 reduction gear 1. When the control shaft 19 is returned to its initial position the cam recess 15 engages the ball 5 and permits leftward axial movement of the control shaft under the action of the spring 6 to disengage the drive between the electric motor and web drive mechanism. A pin 19 axially slidable with the gear 1 operates switches 10 which respectively start the electric motor and release a brake on the web drive mechanism. A tongue 7 fast with the fixed hub 3 engages a stop 8 on the hub 2 to prevent reverse rotation of the control shaft 19 from its zero position.
