Abstract
1,241,220. Thermal switches; automatic circuit-breakers. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. 30 Oct., 1968 [30 Oct., 1967], No. 51536/68. Heading H1N. In a thermally responsive electric cut-out a spring contact arm 4, Fig. 1, is restrained in electrical contact with a latch member 3 mounted on the end of a dished bi-metal element 1 which snaps over at a predetermined temperature to release the latch. The arrangement may be manually reset or may be in a hermetically sealed glass envelope 7 so that it can function only once. The device may be mounted in the casing of a fluorescent lamp ballast to operate at excess temperature when the ballast reaches the end of its useful life. The device may also operate as the result of a current overload.
