Abstract
1,240,753. Sulphur production. INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS. 26 March, 1969 [27 March, 1968], No. 15908/69. Heading C1A. Sulphur is produced by reacting hydrogen sulphide and sulphur dioxide in the presence of a liquid phase containing an oxide or hydroxide of a metal of groups IA and IIA or a salt derived from these oxides and hydroxides and mineral acids having a pK value of at least 2.5 at 20‹ C., and at least one solvent which is a C 6 so alcohol, a C 6-50 polyol having 2 to 5 OH groups, an ether, an ester, an ether-ester of said alcohols and polyols having at least 8 carbon atoms or a polyglycol having at least 8 carbon atoms. The weak acid may be carbonic acid, hydrogen sulphide solution, sulphurous acid, boric acids or a mono- or dihydrogen phosphate. The liquid phase may also contain water, the amount being 0À1 to 100% by weight of the solvent present. The reaction is preferably carried out at 0‹ to 160‹ C. and 0.1 to 100 atmospheres.
