Abstract

1,240,728. De-gassing molten metal. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A. G. Dec. 2, 1968 [Dec. 2, 1967], No.57023/68. Heading C7D. Molten metal e.g. steel, is de-gassed during pouring, by introducing the melt into an intermediate ladle 2 and on leaving via tap-hole 4 the stream 16 is broken up into drops and scavenged by directing on to it a plasma flame 18 through which inert gas is passed. Flame is preferably directed tangentially against stream 16, and powdered substances may be added to the inert gas. Plasma burner 12 is applied in intake vessel 8, between intermediate ladle 2 and casting ladle 3. Inert gas may be introduced, through porous bricks 19 in the base of ladle 3, into the melt which has been run into the ladle.
