Abstract

1,240,725. Road traffic signals; lamp failure alarms. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 14 Nov., 1968 [15 Nov., 1967], No. 54107/68. Headings G4N and G4Q. [Also in Divisions H2 and H3] In a supervisory circuit for traffic light signalling for preventing two green signal lamps from operating simultaneously two green signal lamps V 1 , V 2 are connected across a supply via separate switching devices S 1 , S 2 , two diodes D 1 and D 2 are connected in series opposition between the lamps and a relay R is connected between the supply and the interconnection of the diodes. With both lamps V 1 , V 2 OFF current flows via the diodes D 1 , D 2 to the relay R which maintains the supply I, II connected. When switch S 1 or S 2 , which may be thyristors, are closed to light either lamp V 1 or V 2 one of the diodes D 1 or D 2 cuts OFF. However, current is maintained to the relay winding R, via the other diode D 2 or D 1 , so as to maintain the supply to the lamp which is on. If both switches were closed together the relay R is de-energized and disconnects the supply from the lamps and switches on yellow or orange flashing lights. If one of the green signal lamps or fuses connected in series with these lamps becomes defective then the relay R is also de-energized or an alarm will also be operative when the other green signal lamp is switched in. Also the circuit responds to an interruption of the supply to the relay. The supply I, II may be A.C. or D.C.
