1,087,478. Lamp failure alarms; fault responsive means. FRANZ BAUMGARTNER, [trading as FRANZ BAUMGARTNER FABRIK ELEKTRISCHER APPARATE]. Nov. 22, 1965 [Nov. 21, 1964], No. 49439/65. Headings G4N and G4Q. [Also in Division H3] Failure of a signal lamp circuit connected in series with the primary of a ferrite core transformer changes the current in the secondary to actuate a switching device. Red traffic lights 1 . . . 6 and pedestrian lights a, b for a NS direction are coupled via ferrite core transformers m 1 , m 2 and rectifiers D 1 , D 2 to OR gates D 5 , D 6 . Under normal conditions the outputs from the two transformers are rectified to produce a D.C. signal to reverse bias diodes D 5 , D 6 , so that transistor T 1 is conductive. Failure of any one of the lamps results in a change in the secondary current of m 1 or m 2 sufficient to forward bias D 5 or D 6 and cut-off transistor T 1 . A similar arrangement for the EW direction is coupled to transistor T 2 , so that an output signal is only produced when both transistors are cut-off, i.e. when a light in both directions fails at the same time. If green lights show in both NS and EW directions at the same time, this will also mean that no red lamps are lit, and the output signal (which can be used, for example, to flash an amber) will again be produced.
