1,240,638. Racemization of alanine derivatives. AJINOMOTO CO. Inc. 13 April, 1970 [14 April, 1969], No. 17483/70. Heading C2C. Optically active 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine or an O-proteeted derivative thereof, e.g. the 3,4-dimethoxy or 3,4-methylenedioxy compounds are racemized by heating in an aqueous liquid at pH of 3-10 at a temperature of 170‹ to 220‹ C. optionally in the presence of about 1% of an inorganic or organic reducing agent and optionally with addition of an acid, preferably acetic or formic acid, to the racemized mixture prior to crystallization.
