Abstract

1,240,024. Arc preventing in switches. BROWN BOVERI & CO. Ltd. 22 July, 1969 [24 July, 1968], No. 36810/69. Heading H1N. A power switch 2 at the end of a highvoltage line has adjacent thereto separate apparatus comprising a series resistance 4a which has in parallel a spark-gap over-voltage protector 4a and a by-pass switch 4b arranged to operate in sequence with the switch 2 so that resistance 4a is brought into circuit before the switch 2 is opened and by-passed after the switch 2 is closed. A compensating choke 5 may be provided as shown or may be connected on the side of the resistance 4a remote from the switch 2 (Fig. 3, not shown).
