Abstract

1,240,015. Extrusion pelletizing carbon dioxide. CHEMETRON CORP. 13 Aug., 1968 [15 Aug., 1967], No. 38736/68. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F4] Liquid carbon dioxide withdrawn from a storage tank 36, Fig. 1, is expanded through a valve 34 into a ram chamber C to form snow which is then forced by the ram piston 17 through divergent passages 31, Fig. 3, in the ram head 30 to form pellets 32, Fig. 7, each having a central core portion 90 and axially spaced rib portions 92; the pellets being readily frangible and not adhering to abutting pellets. Each passage 31 may have an upstream convergent conical portion 70 opening into a divergent conical portion 71 or the upstream portion may be a right cylinder opening into a divergent conical portion. The construction of the valve 34 and the ram are as described in Specification 1,104,164.
