1,239,992. Purification of acrylonitrile. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 18 Sept., 1968 [19 Sept., 1967], No. 44258/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] Acrylonitrile is purified by polymerizing less than 1% by weight of it and separating the remaining acrylonitrile from the polymer. In one embodiment, gaseous acrylonitrile is passed over a solid carrier on which is applied a polymerization catalyst and then condensed. In the example, the solid carrier is silica gel and the catalyst is potassium persulphate.
