Abstract

1,239,952. Powder coating. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 15 April, 1969 [30 April, 1968], No. 20469/68. Heading B2E. A powder coating process comprises applying a first coating of a vinyl chloride polymer powder composition to a heated substrate and then applying a second coating of a vinyl chloride polymer composition while the first coating is in a partially fused heat softened tacky condition wherein said first coating contains one component of an epoxy resinhardener adhesion promoting system and the second coating contains the other component, preferably the epoxy resin. The coated substrate is heated to cure the resin and fuse the second coating. The compositions may be the same or different and comprise vinyl chloride homopolymers or copolymers or mixtures thereof with other polymers and may include plasticisers, fillers, pigments, lubricants, flow promoters and stabilisers. The hardener is preferably also a cross linking agent, and the resin a plasticiser for the vinyl chloride polymer. Examples of suitable comonomers, plasticisers, epoxy resins and hardeners are given. Preferably the compositions have differing softnesses as in Specification 1,239,951. The compositions are applied by electrostatic powder coating or by fluidised bed techniques to woven or knitted wire meshes, welded wire grids, plate racks, tool handles and jigs and formers used in electroplating operations.
