Abstract

1,239,924. Rotary crop cutters. W. S. K. LEE. 8 Nov., 1968 [8 Aug., 1967], No. 36258/67. Heading A1F. A rotary crop cutter comprises a shear head 12 with a first shear element 16 provided with a circular cutting edge 17 and at least one second shear element 24 rotatable so that its cutting edge 25 co-acts with the first element 16 to cut a standing crop. The head 12 is mounted in trunnions 10 attached to a supporting boom 11, the first and second shear elements being urged together by a spring, Fig. 2 (not shown), and a chain drive 31 may be provided to a sleeve 21 supporting the elements 24. Alternatively, Figs. 4-5 (not shown), a boom (42) may support the cutting heads from below, being suspended from a tractor three point linkage. The first shear element 16 may be rotatable periodically to equalise wear and the second elements 24 may rotate about an axis eccentric of the first shear element 16. One second element 24 may bear a sharpening device for the circular edge 17.
