981,783. Vegetation-cutters. A. L. TURNER. Nov. 11, 1963 [Aug. 10, 1962], No. 30691/62. Heading A1F. A tractor-mounted roadside-verge cutter, of the type wherein a cutting head 19 is carried by an arm 12 mounted on a tractor (Fig. 1, not shown) which travels along the road, is characterized in that the cutting head houses a shaft 37 carrying a plurality of knives 38 rotating about the shaft-axis, which is driven by a motor 39 disposed remote from the end of the head nearest to the roadside edge of the verge. The motor 39 is hydraulic and is supplied with fluid from a tank 10 on the tractor which also supplies fluid to three pivoted rams 22, 28, 31 connected respectively between two links 12, 17, between the link 12 and a standard 25 on the tractor, and between the link 17 and the head 19. The links 12, 17 and the standard 25 are attached to a frame 11 secured to the tractor chassis. The cutter-head can operate in any position between horizontal and vertical.
