Abstract

1,239,913. Substation equipment. INDUSTRIAL COMMUNICATIONS & ELECTRICAL CO. Ltd. 18 July, 1968 [18 April, 1967], No. 17712/67. Heading H4K. An adaptor unit for coupling the output of a playback device such as a dictating machine to a telephone line at a substation comprises a switch which when operated disconnects the telephone instrument from the line and couples input terminals (to which the output of the playback device could be connected) via a matching transformer to the line. As shown the switch is of the non-holding type and has a single pole contact K3 which connects a socket S (comprising the terminals) via an attenuator pad R to the primary winding W1 of the transformer T, and two make-before-break contacts K1 and K2 which normally connect the telephone instrument I directly to the exchange terminals A, B over their break contacts but which when operated connect one secondary winding W2 of the transformer to the exchange terminals and a second secondary winding W3 of the transformer to the telephone instrument so that both subscribers can hear the output of the playback device.
