Abstract
1,239,732. Colour photographic printing paper. FUJI SHASHIN FILM K.K. Jan. 10, 1969 [Jan. 12, 1968], No. 1586/69. Addition to 1,227,392. Heading G2C. A colour photographic printing paper comprises a paper support, an ultraviolet absorbent-containing layer and a layer containing a polymeric compound having the repeating unit of the general formula I, the layer containing the ultraviolet absorbent not being the uppermost or protective layer and the layer containing the compound having the repeating unit of formula I also containing the ultraviolet absorbent or being farther than the ultraviolet absorbent-containing layer from the paper support, said general formula I being:- wherein R 0 and R 2 each represents H, an alkyl group having 1-8 carbon atoms, an aryl group having 6-12 carbon atoms, an optionally etherified hydroxyalkyl group having 2-4 carbon atoms, a sulphoalkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms, or an alkali metal or an ammonium salt of said sulphoalkyl group, R 1 represents a halogen atom, the group -OR, -SR, -NR(R'), -NHR" or wherein R and R' each represents (i) H, (ii) an alkyl group having 1-12 carbon atoms, a hydroxyalkyl group having 1-12 carbon atoms, a sulphoalkyl group (or its alkali metal salt or ammonium salt), a carboxyalkyl group (or its alkali metal salt or ammonium salt) or an aralkyl group, (iii) an aryl group having 6-18 carbon atoms, OH, a carboxy or sulphonic acid derivative of said aryl group or an alkali metal salt or ammonium salt of said carboxy or sulphonic acid derivative or (iv) a cycloalkyl group having 6-10 carbon atoms, R" represents an alkaryl or haloaryl group or a heterocyclic group containing N or N and S, and A represents a group of atoms which with the N atom complete a saturated ring having 4-5 carbon atoms which ring may contain a hetero atom or a group of atoms which includes a hetero atom; Y represents (i) an alkylene group having 2-10 carbon atoms which may have a hydroxyl or carboxyl substituent or may have an oxygen atom or aryl or cycloalkyl group in the chain, (ii) an arylene alkylene group, (iii) an arylene group having 6-18 carbon atoms or (iv) two arylene groups connected by an oxygen or sulphur atom or a sulphonyl, vinylene or alkylene group, which arylene groups have 6-18 carbon atoms and may have as a substituent an alkyl, carboxylic acyl, carboxy or at least one sulpho group (or the alkali metal or ammonium salt of the carboxy or sulpho group); Z represents a divalent hetero atom or a divalent hetero atomic group; m is 0 or 1; and M represents an alkali metal or the -NH 4 radical. The polymeric compound may be in the uppermost protective layer of the printing paper. The amount of said compound in a layer is preferably 0À5-10 mg/100 cm<SP>2</SP>, and the amount of ultraviolet absorbent is preferably 2-20 mg/100 cm<SP>2</SP>. Many polymeric compounds and ultraviolet absorbents are listed. The ultraviolet absorbent may be a benzotriazole derivative of the formula: - wherein R 1 #, R 2 # and R 3 # each represents H, a halogen atom, NO 2 , an alkyl group, an aromatic group or a heterocyclic ring; a benzophenone derivative of the formula:- wherein R 1 # and R 2 "represent an alkyl group and R 3 "and R 4 "represents H or an alkoxyl group; a thiazolidone derivative of the formula:- wherein R"' represents H or an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an aralkyl group or an aryl group; R 1 ## represents an aryl group or a pyridyl group; and Q represents an imino group; a thiazole derivative, a cirinamic acid ester derivative, an oxazole derivative, an imidazole derivative, an oxadiazole derivative, thiadiazole derivative, thiophene derivative, benzolazine derivative, or a bishydroxyarylamide derivative. The reduction in whitening effect of a fluorescent brightening agent (the polymeric compound) in a printing paper on addition of an ultraviolet absorbent is prevented in this invention by using ultraviolet absorbents with sufficient whiteness. The yellowing effect of ultraviolet absorbents is prevented.
