Abstract
1500382 DIR compound-containing emulsions FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 8 April 1975 [8 April 1974] 14460/75 Heading G2C A colour photographic material, prior to imagewise exposure, comprises at least one light-sensitive emulsion layer containing silver halide in sufficient amount to form a visible silver image on imagewise exposure to light and development and (b) a hydrophilic colloid layer containing (i) at least one reducing agent having an oxidation potential not exceeding 1À5 volts and which reducing agent is ascorbic acid or an ester thereof or is represented by the Formula wherein R<1> and R<2> each represent an optionally substituted linear or branched alkyl group containing from 8 to 20 carbon atoms and R<2> may also represent a hydrogen atom; A<2> and A<3> each represent a hydrogen atom or a group which is capable of being eliminated by alkaline hydrolysis, R<3> represents an alkyl group containing not more than 8 carbon aroms, a halogen atom, an aryl group, a hydroxyl group or a heterocyclic group, and n is 0, 1 or 2, or an alkali-hydrolysable precursor of such a reducing agent, and (ii) at least one compound represented by the general Formula wherein A and A<1> each represent a hydrogen atom or a group which is capable of being eliminated by alkaline hydrolysis, or A<1> may, together with R or Q, complete a ring; P, Q and R each represent a hydrogen atom, an optionally substituted alkyl group, an optionally substituted aryl group, a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a heterocyclic group, an -O-W or -S-W group, wherein W represents an optionally substituted alkyl or aryl group, or a heterocyclic group, or an -S-Z group, wherein Z represents a heterocyclic group, and wherein the compound of Formula (I) contains at least one ballasting group having at least 5 carbon atoms. Suitable A and A<1> (and A<2> and A<3> groups in Formula II) groups are alkylcarbonyl, alkoxycarbonyl or alkoxy-carbonylcarbonyl. When A<1> with R or Q completes a ring it may be e.g. an oxathiazole ring. Z in Formula I is preferably of the Formula wherein M represents alkyl or optionallysubstituted phenyl. Substituents in R<1> and R<2> include halogen, hydroxy, alkoxy, aryloxy, aryl, amino, acylamino, imido, carboxy, alkoxy carbonyl, carbamoyl, or sulphonamido. Examples of reducing agents are 2, 5-di-tert-octyl-, 2-noctadecyl, 2-n-hexadecyl, 2-n-octadecylthio-5-tertoctyl- and 2-(3'-methylphenyl)-hydroquinones. Premature oxidation of DIR compounds can be prevented by incorporating organic acids or salt thereof into a high-boiling solvent and/or hydrophilic colloid together with the DIR derivative and/or reducing agent. Other DIR couplers, interlayer correction couplers and interlayers interimage effect promoters can also be incorporated, lists of these and also of yellow, magenta and cyan couplers are given.
