Abstract

1527851 Arylsulphonamide derivatives FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 9 March 1977 [24 March 1976] 10050/77 Heading C2C [Also in Division G2] The invention relates to a yellow-dye forming photographic coupler represented by formulae wherein R<SP>1</SP> represents an alkyl group or an optionally substituted by alkyl or alkoxy group aryl group, R<SP>2</SP> represents a chlorine atom or an alkoxy group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R<SP>3</SP> represents an alkyl group having 8 to 22 carbon atoms, a phenoxyalkyl group having 10 to 32 carbon atoms, an alkoxyphenyl group having 10 to 32 carbon atoms or an aralkyl group having 10 to 32 carbon atoms, and X is a group of one of the three general formulae wherein Z<SP>1</SP> represents the non-metallic atoms necessary to form a 5-membered ring or a 6- membered ring together with the moiety wherein Z<SP>2</SP> represents the non-metallic atoms necessary to form an unsaturated 5-membered ring or an unsaturated 6-membered ring together with the and wherein Z<SP>3</SP> represents the non-metallic atoms necessary to form an imidazole ring or a triazole ring together with These compounds may be prepared by halogenating (where Y=Cl or Br in the following general Formula (VIII)) a four-equivalent mother coupler (where Y=H in the following general Formula (VIII)) and reacting the halogenated compound with a compound HX (where X is the same as defined in general Formula (I)) wherein R 1 and R 2 each has the same meaning as defined in general Formula (I) and (II), and R 6 represents -NHSO 2 -R 3 for producing compounds of Formula (I) or -SO 2 NHR 3 for producing compounds of Formula (II). The following intermediates are prepared in the examples:-2 - Chloro - 5 - hexadecansulphonamidoaniline by reacting hexadecanesulphonylchloride with 2-chloro-5-aminonitrobenzene to prepare 2 - chloro - 5 - hexadecanesulphonamidonitrobenzene which is reduced by H+/Pd to form 2-chloro-5-hexadecanesulphonamidoaniline. α - Pivaloyl - 2 - chloro - 5 - hexadecanesulphonamidoacetanilide by refluxing the above intermediate with ethyl pivaloylacetate.
