Abstract

1,239,697. Cross-linking PVC. SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO. Ltd. 8 Dec., 1969 [16 Dec., 1968], No. 59727/69. Heading C3P. Cross-linking PVC is effected by heating with 0À1-20 parts (per hundred parts of polymer) of a bismaleimide of the formula in which R is a divalent organic group and 0À05-10 parts of a peroxide having a hydrocarbon group substituted by an aromatic radical. In examples are used m-phenylene or 4-methyl-m-phenylene bismaleimide and dicumyl peroxide, and 1,3-ditert.-butyl-peroxydiisopropylbenzene. Also present are dibutyl tin maleate, dibutyl tin dilaurate and butyl stearate, or tribasic lead sulphate, dibasic lead phosphite and lead stearate.
