Abstract

1,239,444. Sulphonated hydrocarbons. SOC. NATIONALE DES PETROLES D'AQUITAINE. 7 June, 1968 [12 June, 1967], No. 27181/68. Heading C2C. Alkyl sulphonic acids, in acid form or in the form of alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salts, are recovered from a mixture containing in addition non-sulphonated hydrocarbons, H 2 SO 4 , H 2 O with or without organic solvents, by degasifying the mixture, adding a light polar organic solvent to the mixture to cause demixing of the hydrocarbons, withdrawing an aqueous organic solution substantially free of any paraffins present in the mixture, treating the said aqueous organic solution with a solution of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal compound to precipitate sulphuric acid as sulphate, separating the sulphate precipitate and recovering from the residual solution the required product. Examples are given for the recovery of alkyl sulphonic acids.
