Abstract

A postural drainage device comprises a body rest 11 having a curved upper end 13 and a flat surface 14 extending downwardly from upper end 13 at an angle below the horizontal of from 35-60 degrees. Rest 11 is mounted on a stand 12 that is adjustable in height, so that when surface 14 supports the body and chest and end 13 the pelvic region of a user, the thighs and knees of the user extend below end 13 and the head of the user extends below the lower end of surface 14. Handles 15 (16) straddle the user, and a handle 17 is adjustable to different heights between rods 18 (19) to support the arms, hands, or head. Rest 11 is padded. In a modified portable device (Fig. 4) the rest (25) is supported by legs (30) with feet (33) hinged to the rest (at 31) so as to fold flat thereagainst and braced by jointed brackets 32. The device is positioned near the edge of an elevated structure (29) such as a table, bed or stairstep so that when the user kneels behind the device, his head hangs below the lower end (28) of the rest.
