Abstract
1,238,885. Valves. COOPERS MECHANICAL JOINTS Ltd., and J. C. CULLIS. 23 Sept., 1968, No. 16109/70. Divided out of 1,238,884. Heading F2V. A dust- and water-discharge valve 19, on an I.C. engine air filter, comprises a tubular body 22 flattened at one end to form lips 24 and presenting an annular sleeve 20 at 45 degrees to the body at the other end, the valve 19 being made of resilient rubber or plastics. Sleeve 20 fits over discharge duct 17 on the filter casing 2 and is secured thereto by a bead and recess connection 21 which allows the valve to be rotated to direct lips 24 downwards whether filter casing 2 is vertically or horizontally oriented (Fig. 2, not shown). Lips 24 are normally held together by the suction in casing 2 but separate to discharge dust under the combined influences of engine vibration, weight of collected dust and relaxation of suction when the engine is switched off.
