Abstract
1,238,367. Annealing by induction. BETA INSTRUMENT CO. Ltd. Nov. 11, 1969 [Nov. 11, 1968], No. 53364/68. Heading C7N. The invention comprises a process and an apparatus therefor for annealing flexible metallic material comprising drawing the material by means of a first electric motor through an annealing device in which a length of the material is magnetically coupled to an induction coil, shortcircuiting the said length so that induced current in the length heats the material, tensioning the material by means of a second electric motor, and controlling the tension of the material by a tensioning device operating on the second electric motor and as described in Specification 1,194, 771. (see Division G3). Preferably the material is quenched, in e.g. oil or water, after annealing; is annealed in an inert atmosphere, e.g. steam, or nitrogen. The power input to the induction coil may be varied in proportion to the speed of flexible material through the device.
