Abstract

The cross-grain magnetic permeability of silicon steels containing at least 2% of silicon is improved by at least 3% by annealing the material at a temperature less than the Curie point while it is subjected to a magnetic field. The annealing temperature may be in the range 400-720 DEG C. in an example material containing 3.25% of silicon was given an anneal at 1175 DEG C. in hydrogen prior to the process of the invention.
