Abstract
1,238,214. Candles; tapers. J. R. SUMMERS. 12 Sept., 1968, No. 43436/68. Headings F4F and F4T. A rigid taper 1 or 1a which comprises an inner portion including a wick 2 and a surrounding rigid outer portion 4 of flame consumable material is adaptable to become the integral central core of a wax candle 6 to thereby provide rigidity for the candle 6 as a whole. As shown in Fig. 1, taper I has a wax body 3 separating the wick 2 and the outer portion 4 which is of a material such as wood, plastic or cellulosie compound resistive to the absorption of melted wax as taper 1 burns and having a temperature of ignition in excess of the melting temperature of the wax. The wick may be non- consumable and only extend part-way through the body 3 being attached to a float or a weight adapted to fit within the periphery of the outer portion 4 and descend as the taper 1 is consumed. As shown in Fig. 2 the outer portion 4 of taper 1a. has perforations 8 for the passage therethrough of melted wax from the body of candle 6 as it burns. The wick may be consumable or non-consumable with a float or weight arrangement as described above and it may be made of a wood such as bamboo or of fibre. The outer portion may be woven or may comprise a lamination of wooden strips.
