Abstract

The present invention relates to a flare having a combustible element made from paraffin and a sheath (12) made from paper which serves as wick. Problems have always existed with such flares owing to the fact that the paraffin liquefied by the flame forms copious drops and flows off, as well as that there is a relatively short burning time. The invention provides a remedy here by means of a fire-retarding helix (14) which is laid spirally around the sheathed combustible element so as to produce a spiral interspace (16). <IMAGE>

Description

The present invention relates to a torch according to the preamble of claim 1.

Such torches are known in the prior art in different embodiments.
However, these always have properties that the user perceives as very negative.

Firstly, the strong draining and draining of the paraffin liquefied by the flame and, as a final result, the paraffin distributed and solidified over the soil or the plants. The removal of the pollution is tedious and time consuming.
Secondly, this disturbed burning behavior inevitably leads to a considerable shortening of the burning time due to the elimination of the unused flowing paraffin.
Thirdly, the wick, which is often made of cotton, does not work even with little drafts and the like.

The object of the present invention is therefore to improve the torch mentioned at the outset in such a way that it reliably avoids the disadvantages described, i.e. a torch is created which has an undisturbed, safe burning behavior with a long burning time, without liquefied paraffin suffocating the flame or contaminating the soil.

This object is surprisingly achieved by the torch characterized in claim 1. The invention therefore uses a fire-retardant coil which is helically guided around the encased fuel element. This ensures that a controlled burn occurs, in which the one-sided burn is also restricted. It should be clear that the erosion is inhibited in the area of the filament, while the gap, which is also provided in a helical manner, ensures that the erosion proceeds, since it is not covered by the fire-retardant filament.

The helix advantageously consists of wrapping paper which is impregnated with sodium and / or potassium silicate. Both so-called extinguishing agents ensure good adhesion to the coated fuel element. However, other chemicals are also conceivable for the person skilled in the art.

In the event that the pitch of the helix is constant and the gap remains the same in the axial view, ie the individual coils of the helix are at the same distance from one another, a uniform burn-off is ensured. If, on the other hand, the space or the distance between the individual coils of the coil is changed by changing the pitch, the burning time can be reduced or increased.

Further advantages and features emerge from the preceding subclaims, which can also be of inventive importance together with the main claim.

In the following, a special embodiment of the present invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing.

Es zeigt:

Fig. 1
It shows:
Fig. 1
is a schematic cross-sectional view of a torch according to the invention
The torch according to the invention is generally designated 10. In this preferred embodiment, it has the shape of a match known per se. It has a length of 60 cm with a square cross-section of the firing element of 32 x 32 mm. The decorative cover 22 is wood-colored and consists of cardboard which is arranged above the fuel body provided with a helix 14 and with a jacket 12. The decorative envelope 22 follows the controlled burning of the square burner. At the upper end of the combustion body, an approximately round, red ignition head 18 is provided, which consists of a mixture of sawdust and paraffin, as well as some paraffin-soaked wicks 20 on the upper head part, which are intended to facilitate ignition of the ignition head 18. The arrangement of the wicks 20 in the upper region is intended to distribute the flame evenly on all sides. Dripping of paraffin from the ignition head 18 could not be observed in experiments.

The conclusion at the lower end of the torch 10 is a cemented-in concrete block 24, which has a lower elongated recess or bore 26. In this hole, a wooden stick, not shown, can be used, which is sharpened at its outer end, so that it can be easily inserted into the ground, etc. The concrete block 24 ends the burning of the torch.

It should be clear that other sizes, shapes and colors are also suitable for a torch according to the invention.

The term "torch" should not be understood too narrowly. Any "candles" and the like that make use of the inventive concept are also within the scope of the present patent.
