Abstract

782,220. Pyrotechnic signals and smoke screens. SCHERMULY PISTOL ROCKET APPARATUS, Ltd. July 3, 1956 [July 4, 1955], No. 19228/55. Class 9(2) A smoke generator for signalling and like purposes comprises a cylindrical container 1 of perforated zinc lined with a sheet 4 of polyethylene and filled with a coloured smoke-generating composition 2. A strip 5 of tinned sheet steel is wrapped spirally around the container, the edges of the strip being soldered at intervals to the container. A framework supporting the container consists of two discs, 7, 8 spaced by distance pieces 9 to which are secured arms 10 extending the length of the container 1. The framework is housed in a casing 13 closed by a cap 14 with a neck 16 extending from a central aperture. Within the neck is an igniter, e.g. friction, covered by a cap 17. A spacer 18 supports the cap 14. On removal of the cap 17 and ignition of the composition 2, the smoke is emitted through the neck 16. The polyethylene melts as the composition burns and tarry products of the composition pass through the perforations 3 and flow down the container wall through recesses 12 in the disc 8 into the reservoir 20 between the discs 7, 8
